India Squad For England T20I Series 2025
The upcoming T20I series against England, starting on Jan 22, will be a blockbuster contest between the two teams. While England has announced its squad for the series, all eyes remain on BCCI’s announcement of the Indian squad. Many old faces from the last series are likely to be seen, and a few changes may be made to the current form.
Some of the players such as Siraj, and Bumrah featuring in the current test series of Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 could be rested for the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025. Players who are playing regular T20 cricket and preparing for the next T20 World Cup 2026 in India could be given preference over regular members.
Let’s look at the India Squad For England T20I Series 2025:
Dominating Batters in the Setup
Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Verma, Suryakumar Yadav (C), Rinku Singh
India has been a batting powerhouse for a long time, and this tradition is likely to continue in the coming years. The batting powerhouse could feature Jaiswal, Surya, Tilak, and Rinku, especially in the T20 cricket. This makes a formidable top order along with Sanju, with Rinku as a floater whenever needed. Two lefties at the top order could be crucial to maintain the left-right combo and be valuable to the team. All these players have proven records to justify their place at the top order. Jaiswal is most likely to start the innings with Sanju, Tilak at 3, and Surya at 4.
Dashing Wicketkeepers to Set the Tone
Sanju Samson, and Jitesh Sharma
Sanju and Jitesh are likely to be the team’s wicketkeepers. Sanju has proved his worth in the last T20I series against SA. The opening has turned the tide in Sanju’s T20I career, and the management will look to have him in the setup and won’t experiment with him. Jitesh, known for his finishing ability, is likely to stay as a backup wicketkeeper. If needed, Jitesh can feature in a couple of games.
A Blend of Young and Experienced All-Rounders
Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Nitish Reddy, Axar Patel
After so long, India has seen a bench featuring many talented all-rounders. Each one brings their value to the table, and leaving any of them out of the setup will be hard. The bench could see Hardik, Nitish, Axar, and Dube. While Hardik and Axar have proven their worth earlier, it will be a fresh opportunity for Dube and Nitish to seal their place in the starting 11. Reddy is having the time of his life and enjoying the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 series.
Dube was with the T20 World Cup 2024 setup and will be in the management’s thought process. Each has their ability and contributes significantly to the team’s progress. It will be a big headache for the management to leave anyone out of the 11. Ramandeep Singh might not find his place in the squad once Pandya, and Reddy are back.
Opportunities for the Young Bowlers
Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakaravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, Yash Dayal, Avesh Khan.
Except for Arshdeep, the bowling unit is relatively new and inexperienced. A few of them have some matches and have done a pretty good job as well. However, the ones left out would be etching to get a place in the starting 11 and prove a point. The unit would be covering all the bases of left-arm to right-arm bowlers as pacers and spinners. The fast bowling group, led by Arshdeep, will look to decimate the English batters and Avesh Khan is most likely to partner him. His ability to bowl at the start and death makes him a key player in the group. Leg spinner Bishnoi and mystery spinner Varun had a fantastic run in the recent T20I series against South Africa and will find a place in the T20I set-up.
Overall, the team is good and formidable. It will be interesting to see who becomes the next sensation in the coming series and put the English team under pressure.
