India Squad for Champions Trophy 2025 and India vs England ODI Series Schedule
BCCI will soon announce the squad for the upcoming ODI series against England and the Champions Trophy 2025 in the coming January. The series will be vital from the Indian point of view, as it will be good practice before the Champions Trophy. The series will allow the players to get into the ODI action and adjust their bodies to the ODI format. It will also be a good opportunity for a few players to open their hands and return to form. For a few, it will be a kind of comeback series to justify their selection for the team.
Dominating Top-Order Department
The top 4 looks pretty dominant on paper and the experience they carry. Rohit and Gill will be openers in ODIs, Rohit will continue to put the opposition under pressure and Gill will play with his approach as per the conditions. Virat Kohli, at number 3, needs no introduction to what he can do with the bat. His performance is to ensure the best use of the platform set by the openers. Iyer has been sensational for India at number 4 and has sorted the middle-order problem for India. The Top 4 in the batting order is well-set and will be untouched.
Plenty of Wicket-keepers
India is most likely to include three wicketkeepers in its squad. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are most likely to be in the team, as they provide good depth and a quick scoring scenario. Sanju Samson was outstanding in the T20 series against South Africa and may find his place in the team again because in ODIs he has not done anything wrong so far but it is up to the selectors.
All-rounders to Enhance the Depth
India will have a good number of all-rounders to go ahead with. Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are India’s go-to ones for their proven records with bat and ball. Jadeja who was missing in the Sri Lanka tour should be back. Axar Patel has been sensational in his limited chances at the highest level. Seen as a rightful successor to Jadeja, Axar is most likely to find his place. Washington Sundar and Shivam Dube could also get chances to improve the depth of the squad.
Who should replace Shami in ODIs?
Most probably the bowling department for the upcoming ODI series will see Bumrah, Akash Deep, Arshdeep, Siraj, and Kuldeep Yadav. Akash Deep will most likely be added in the absence of Shami to partner Bumrah and Siraj. While Shami was expected to return after a long injury since the ODI World Cup 2023 Final, Shami who featured in the recent Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024 series had a very good run and was also included in the Vijay Hazare 2024-25 season, but his arise of recent swelling on his left-leg ruled him out from all forms of cricket for another couple of few weeks. BCCI will not rush him into the squad and want him fit for the Champions Trophy. Once he is fit, he will surely get a direct entry into the Champions Trophy 2025 squad.
Let’s look at the possible 17-man India squad for Champions Trophy 2025 and the England ODI series:
Batsmen: Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer.
Wicket-keepers: Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, and Sanju Samson.
All-Rounders: Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, and Washington Sundar.
Bowlers: Jasprit Bumrah, Akash Deep, Mohammad Siraj, Kuldeep Yadav, and Arshdeep Singh.
