CRICKET OPINION

Politics, etc. Reasons Behind Pakistan Cricket Downfall

Pakistan cricket team, winner of the last Champions Trophy 2017 edition and runners-up of T20 WC 2022, with this kind of success you feel a team is bound to achieve unprecedented heights of success. However, things have not turned out well for Pakistan since then. Once featuring legends such as Imran Khan, Inzamam-Ul-Haq, Shoaib Akhtar, Wasim Akram, and many more, the current Pakistan team is currently at the last stage of hitting rock bottom.

A big name in the world of cricket with the quality of players they produce, now sees themselves in an unimaginable state. The recent test series loss against Bangladesh and struggle during home tours opened up debates in the cricket fraternity. Cricket experts from all over the world have raised an eyebrow of concerns about the performances of Pakistani players.

Let us look at the reasons for Pakistan Cricket’s downfall:

Favoritism in the Team

This is one of the major reasons that Pakistan cricket has not been very successful recently. The favoritism within the team is killing the Pakistan team from the inside. Even with players such as Rizwan, Babar, Shaheen, and Naseem, the teams find it hard to put runs on the board and get the opposition out easily.

Without naming any players, it can be seen the biasedness that is going on in the team. No one has their places fixed in the team except a few. Many Pakistani critics have voiced their opinions on it. Hopefully, the recent series will be an eye-opener for everyone from selectors to the board members.

Personal Milestones Over Team Success

A team is doomed once the players start prioritizing personal achievements over team success. This is a certain case in the Pakistan cricket team where the players are seen to be focusing more on personal milestones rather than the team’s needs. Such incidents put the team in a backward position and take more than enough to overcome.

Team Selection and Captaincy Change

Hardly one can find format-wise players in the Pakistan Cricket Team. Players are picked based on either favoritism or randomly barring a few names. The out-of-form players are kept in the team thereby wasting the place of talented youngsters.

The impact of this mismanagement can also be seen in the captaincy change at frequent intervals. This sets a bad example for any team which also affects the team environment. In the last year, the white ball captaincy was taken away from Babar, and after a few series captaincy was handed back to him even after the team performed was not poor.

Poor Domestic Structure Setup

The domestic structure of Pakistan lacks proper infrastructure and quality players because of a lot of politics going on at the senior level, deserving candidates are ignored, facilities related to cricket aren’t well provided and different people coming to the administration at regular intervals bring their ideas scrapping the old one that doesn’t help the domestic structure to flourish.

Also, the PSL has not created a much bigger impact than many other big leagues in the world such as IPL, BBL, and various others. The regular performing domestic players are not immediately brought into the team and if brought are not given a longer run.

Conclusion

To summarize, all the points mentioned above raise questions about the administration of the board, the favoritism in the team, and the credibility of the selectors as well. It is painful to see such a passionate cricketing nation finding itself at the lowest phase but fans will be hoping for a miraculous comeback so that they get to witness the glorious era of Pakistan cricket again.
