Possible IPL 2025 LSG Retained Players List
LSG played their maiden season in 2022 and since then they have qualified for the playoffs twice in the years 2022 and 2023 respectively. In 2024, they won only 7 out of 14 matches and due to NRR, they could not cross the mark. They have been one of the most underrated sides, and also have the potential to lift the trophy. The management would be looking to get their key players back into the squad and rebuild the team around them.
LSG will go into the IPL 2025 Auction with a heavy purse of INR 73 Crore after retaining these mentioned players and will bid big for some players and also try to retain their core team.
The big purse will come in handy in picking players that suit their needs. With the right kind of squad in this auction, LSG will hope for a trophy in the coming season.
Let’s look at the Possible IPL 2025 LSG Retained Players List:
KL Rahul
KL Rahul has often been put under scrutiny for his less aggressive approach in T20 cricket. While it is true that his strike rate has gone down in the last few years, he still can play an aggressive brand of cricket if needed. One of the senior players of the Indian team and the first drafted player of LSG during the IPL 2022 Auction, KL Rahul is likely to be retained at INR 18 Crore.
KL Rahul comes to the table not just as a solid opener with a calm personality but also as a smart leader, a reliable wicket-keeper, a fantastic fielder, and most importantly his quality to gel with everyone. A healthy environment is needed for a team to progress, which is what KL tries to follow in LSG.
KL Rahul will be a no-brainer choice as a retention again for the next season. Additionally, there was certain news regarding some conflicts between KL Rahul and the LSG owner but things got calmed down with time. When in the mood, KL can take down the best of the bowlers and set the tone of the game in no time.
Nicholas Pooran
He is currently one of the most destructive batsmen in T20 cricket, Nicholas Pooran is likely to be retained at an INR 14 Crore. Pooran’s ability to take down the bowlers from the first ball makes him more dangerous, especially in T20s. The recent performances in various leagues show the good form he is in.
Nicholas Pooran’s ability to keep wicket also makes him a multi-use player. His wicket-keeping skills will be an added advantage for LSG in case KL decides to play purely as a batter. LSG won’t mind retaining Pooran as a second pick for the kind of player and form he is in.
Also, his captaincy skills make him an ideal option for a second pick. His experience of captaincy will help Rahul and will be vital in continuing the team forward.
Marcus Stoinis
Known as ‘Hulk’ among cricket fans, Marcus Stoinis had a great couple of IPL seasons in LSG. Known for big hits in the slog overs, Stoinis showed his ability as a mature player last season and played according to the situation. His ability to score runs at a quick rate makes him the third possible retention for LSG.
In three seasons with LSG, Stoinis has scored 952 and picked 13 wickets. As a bowler, Marcus Stoinis has not been used much by LSG. However, his experience of international cricket comes into play every time he gets an opportunity to bowl. Since LSG bought Stoinis at INR 10 Crore, they would not mind spending one crore extra to secure his services as one of the finest all-rounders in world cricket. Stoinis is likely to be the third retention for LSG at INR 11 Crore.
Ayush Badoni
The fourth likely retention could be Ayush Badoni for the kind of performances he has given for LSG and in recent times. One of the finest youngsters in the domestic circuit, Badoni has played 42 matches for LSG and scored 600+ runs at a healthy strike rate of 134.
Badoni can finish the innings and build partnerships when needed. Many times, Badoni came at a crucial juncture and played remarkable knocks for the team. His consistency will have the management’s backing and make him an eligible candidate for the fourth spot retention. Also, LSG teammates call him Baby AB for his unorthodox style of batting.
Bought at a base price of INR 20 Lakh in IPL 2022, if retained then Badoni will surely get INR 4 Crore in the uncapped category. LSG won’t let a player of such quality slip from their squad.
The player who could be Picked through RTM by LSG management for IPL 2025:
Mayank Yadav, last year’s sensation, will most likely be retained using RTM. His ability to bowl 140+ consistently and at good line and length makes him an ideal candidate for retention. If used properly, Mayank Yadav could turn into one of the biggest match-winners for both LSG and Indian cricket.
Ravi Bishnoi is another player who also could be retained by LSG using their RTM card. Bishnoi, bought at INR 4 Crore in IPL 2022, has picked 39 wickets for LSG. A fine leg spinner, who can tilt the game at crunch moment.
It will be very interesting to see how LSG will use its RTM card because retaining Mayank or Bishnoi for a price range of INR 14 to 18 Crore won’t make any sense. If the auction dynamics allow there will be a possibility that LSG can grab these two-star youngsters without an RTM card that too at a much cheaper price.
