5 Players who are Victim of Biasedness in the Indian Cricket Team

Indian domestic cricket is filled with talents waiting for regular opportunities in the national team to prove their worth. They have the potential to succeed at the highest level. Some of them got a chance and were immediately dropped from the scene. Some are waiting for an opportunity despite being a regular performer at the domestic level.

Here are the names of the players who are not getting chances in the Indian Cricket Team regularly:

Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad rose to the occasion during his stint with CSK and has established himself in the setup. A good timer of the ball who has the potential to succeed in all formats of the game. His domestic record of 39.95 average and 140 strike rate in T20 makes him a skillful batsman, the only Indian player to score a century against Australia in T20Is. He also has an average of 41.77 in first class and an average of 56.15 in List A cricket. Despite such a good record in T20 and other game formats, Rutu finds himself unlucky to be on the other side of the team.

Ruturaj had a disastrous India A series against Australia A, scoring just 20 runs in four innings. He last featured against Zimbabwe in 2024. After winning the Asian Games as a captain, Ruturaj performed incredibly against Australia in T20Is. He became the first Indian player to score a T20I century against Australia. Yet, after an astonishing average of 55.75 against Australia and 66.50 against Zimbabwe, he failed to find the trust of the selectors. He was sidelined from T20I and asked to focus on test matches as a third and backup opener in the BGT. However, things didn’t turn out well for him. Ruturaj remains far from being considered by Indian selectors.

Abhimanyu Easwaran

The much-awaited selection was finally put to rest during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25. Despite the poor form of prominent batters, Abhimanyu failed to make a place in the test series. Rated highly in the domestic circuit and a consistent performer, Easwaran could be the unluckiest cricketer not to play for India after scoring over 7500 runs at an average of nearly 50.

Easwaran played his last India A match against Australia in 2024. He had a miserable two-match outing, scoring just 36 runs in 4 innings with a high score of 17. He would have liked to have a better India A series to present his case strongly for a place in the playing 11 in the senior team.

Tanush Kotian

Tanush Kotian’s rise has been one of the pleasing stories of domestic cricket. Considered a rightful successor to Ravichandran Ashwin in test cricket, Kotian has grabbed every opportunity with both hands. Primarily suited for Test cricket, Kotian’s numbers show his potential. Going by the numbers, Kotian has scored more than 1600 runs with an average of 42 and has taken 105 wickets at an economy of 3.34 in 35 matches. He played a crucial role with the bat for Mumbai many times, especially during a collapse.

Tanush Kotian was included in the practice test before the Border-Gavakar series for India A against Australia A in 2024. In two innings, he scored 44 runs and picked up one wicket. Coming to bat at 8, he bailed the team out of trouble by forming a partnership of 49 runs. However, he would have liked to have a better match with the bowl.

Navdeep Saini

Navdeep Saini, the 32-year-old fast bowler from Delhi, deserved more than chances in red ball but did not get. Last played in the famous Gabba test, Navdeep Saini didn’t receive the support he would have wanted. In 74 first-class matches, Saini has picked 203 wickets at an economy of 3.11. He looks lethal in the domestic circuit and has troubled the batters on many occasions. His consistency and habit of bowling long spells have won Delhi many games.

Navdeep Saini had a poor India A match against Australia A. In both the innings, Saini went wicketless. His figures read 22-1-85-0. Unfortunately, his India career didn’t take off. He played two test matches for India, picking up 4 wickets.

Dhruv Jurel

Dhruv Jurel has done well in the limited opportunities that have come his way. Rated highly by the cricket experts, he also retained the trust of the selectors during the England 2024 test series. Jurel has performed well in both domestic and international cricket. Unfortunately, he keeps losing his place due to the unfortunate selection of the team. In the recent T20 series against England, Jurel was once again benched from the team in the 4th T20I.

Likewise, after the first test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25, he was benched for the entire series. In the practice matches and England series, Dhruv showed his temperament and his ability to play in tough test match situations. In domestic cricket, Jurel has scored over 1200 runs at an average of more than 45. He deserves a regular run in the team purely as a batter and backup wicketkeeper for Rishabh Pant.

All these players are young and have 5-6 years of cricket left in them. If given a regular chance, they can do well and make a name for themselves in the future. And, despite their domestic performances, if selectors fail to allow them it’s team India’s loss for wasting such a talent
