Possible IPL 2025 Delhi Capitals Retained Players List
Delhi Capitals had a great 3 seasons after the 2018 Mega Auction they made it into the playoffs 3 times in a row and also played the final in 2020. Ever since the IPL 2022 Mega Auction the coaching unit consisted of legends like Ricky Ponting, Sourav Ganguly, Shane Watson, and many others but Delhi could not make it to the playoffs.
Despite struggling, Delhi Capitals have found a handful of gems throughout their journey such as Kuldeep Yadav’s new rise, Axar Patel’s all-round consistency, Rishabh Pant’s redemption, Mukesh Kumar’s resilient bowling spells, underrated Abhishek Porel, destructive duo of Jake Fraser and Tristan Stubbs. This year retention may cost them a few players. However, they would like to secure the service of a few players to keep their base covered. Delhi Capitals has quality Indian players that they wouldn’t want to go.
If Delhi Capitals retains these three quality players they will go with a mighty amount of INR 77 Crore in the upcoming IPL 2025 Auction.
Let’s look at the possible IPL 2025 Delhi Capitals Retained Players List:
Rishabh Pant
Pant is the first name that is most likely to be retained by Delhi Capitals at INR 18 Crore. Pant has been a great asset for the Delhi franchise and can change the momentum of the game with his batting and captaincy. His aggressive brand of cricket suits the T20 need in present times.
Rishabh Pant has been one of the trusted members of DC management. He has played numerous match-winning innings for Delhi and given countless memories to the fans. His additional qualities such as leadership, wicket-keeping, and his left-hand explosive batting make him an ideal candidate for first-place retention. Delhi wouldn’t mind spending INR 18 Crore for a player of Pant’s caliber.
Coming back from injury, Rishabh Pant has been as quick as he has ever been. His recent performances in the IPL 2024 showed why Indian management had belief in him. Pant’s ability to put the bowlers under pressure makes him one of the fearless batters. DC fans will hope for a great season for Pant and DC in the coming IPL.
Axar Patel
One of the important players for the Indian team and Delhi Capitals, Axar Patel has proved himself at every stage. His performance in the T20 WC 2024 final is enough to prove his ability as a player. Handling the pressure and bailing the team out of trouble whenever needed is what Axar excels at. Delhi Capitals trusted his ability and Axar didn’t let them down with his performances.
Axar Patel has picked 62 wickets and scored 967 runs for Delhi Capitals since 2019 and has been an integral part of their success. Coming to bat in the middle order, Axar has done pretty well for Delhi. His match-winning ability is what this franchise will be targeting and looks to retain him at INR 14 Crore. Axar, as an all-rounder, has been phenomenal in the last few years and is seen as a competent successor to Ravindra Jadeja.
Kuldeep Yadav
Arguably one of the best wrist spinners in world cricket at the moment. Kuldeep Yadav’s skills are not hidden from anyone. His ability to pick wickets at crucial junctures makes him one of the most lethal bowlers. Kuldeep rise has been a remarkable story in the cricket story in recent times.
Backed heavily by the Delhi Capitals management and captain, Kuldeep proved them right by giving match-winning performances for them. Bought at INR 2 Crore at the IPL 2022 auction. Since then Kuldeep Yadav has picked 47 wickets and is most likely to be retained by the Delhi Franchise. For a player of Kuldeep’s quality, Delhi Capitals won’t like to risk him.
Kuldeep has been preferred over Yuzvendra Chahal in recent times. This is a testimony to his skills and how highly he is rated in the Indian circuit. Delhi Capitals, under new management, will wish for the same performance from Kuldeep.
Tristan Stubbs
A new-generation superstar who has the potential to be one of the finest middle-order batsmen for South Africa is most likely to be retained by Delhi Capitals using an RTM card. Stubbs showed his potential in last year’s IPL and T20 WC 2024 where he bailed the respective teams out of trouble many times.
His ability to play attacking cricket and change the momentum in a few deliveries will have the backing of Delhi management. Stubbs, along with Pant, in the middle will be a tough nut to crack for the opponents. The death-over scene of Delhi Capitals will get sorted once they get Stubbs back in their squad. The middle order of DC will feature Pant, Stubbs, and Axar who can turn the tide of the game in their favor.
Jake Fraser-McGurk
The last IPL was perhaps the passing of the baton to Jake Fraser-McGurk from David Warner as a destructive opener. Delhi will hope for the same destructive performances from him. Last year Fraser gave a glimpse of his caliber in the shortest format.
Jake Fraser showed his talent by targeting Bumrah in the last IPL and it took everyone by surprise. With such an aggressive mindset, and with the right approach towards T20 format, Jake Fraser is most likely to be DC’s new opener. He scored 300+ runs in IPL 2024 at a strike rate of more than 200 and gave a solid start to the innings.
However, the Delhi franchise will try to get him back using one of their RTM cards that would be the only way they can get Jake Fraser in the setup otherwise they will have to retain him for INR 14 or 18 Crore. A new talent, if groomed well, has the potential to be one of the destructive openers in IPL.
Hence, Delhi Capitals will most likely use their RTM cards to have Jake Fraser and Tristian Stubbs back in their squad.
