Despite 2 Losses, Why Mumbai Indians still look Good to Conquer IPL 2025?

Mumbai Indians looked like a dominant team coming into the IPL 2025. The 5-times IPL champion would be looking to add another feather in their cap, but not with losses already in the first two games. The management has done a great job in assembling troops of destruction. Mumbai’s squad also looks stacked with some big names and T20-suited players. MI has sometimes looked off-color since the IPL 2021 season, considering 2 times they ended last in the points table and qualified only once in the last 4 seasons. The fans still supported them and cheered loudly in every match. MI will be looking to repay the faith, and truly, this season looks like a promising one.

Let’s have a look at the Analysis of Mumbai Indians IPL 2025 Squad:

Hard-Hitting Top-Order Batting

MI is known for their power-hitting setup at the top of the order. This season is different from any other, the inclusion of Will Jacks has given a boost to their batting lineup but it depends on how they use it. Then, coming down would be MI’s promising youngster, Tilak Verma. Tilak’s rise to become a trusted player for MI has been sensational. Also, they got the backing of the sensational star of the recent SA20 2025 season where Ryan Rickleton had a tremendous run. However, the main challenge would be Hardik’s management skills.

Fiery and Aggressive Middle Order

The opponent bowlers will find it hard to breathe easy with Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav coming down the order. The abilities of these players are hidden to none. Hardik, as an all-rounder, provides incredible depth and stability to the team. He has a proven record as a captain at least in the IPL. And, there’s Suryakumar who enjoys the IPL tournament the most amongst any of the MI teammates. MI would be hopeful of Hardik repeating his heroics as a captain and all-rounder.

MI scouts have managed to find two gems Naman Dhir and Robin Minz. And also got an all-rounder in the form of Raj Bawa, who is pretty consistent with both bat and bowl in the domestic circuit. Additionally, Mumbai secured the service of New Zealand’s skipper Mitchell Santner as well. He has been leading the national team and is a handy all-rounder lower down the order. He can easily fit into the starting lineup of the Mumbai Indians.

Lethal and Much Improved Bowling Attack

The absence of Bumrah and other lead pacers in the last few seasons devastated Mumbai’s performances. The management almost sorted out the issue this year by successfully getting the combo of Boult-Bumrah, but once again, Jasprit Bumrah’s injury appeared. The addition of Deepak Chahar was the icing on the cake, probably extended support with the new ball. Deepak and Boult have not been very destructive in the first two games, but Mumbai will support them to get their rhythm back.

Once Bumrah also gets fit, they could play a symphony of great fast bowling in the tournament. However, according to the reports, Bumrah will likely miss a few more matches. Bumrah picked up an injury during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and is yet to make a comeback. And, all-rounder Corbin Bosch has replaced Lizzard William in the squad. Mumbai has been dealing with a lot of injury issues with the main players since the 2022 season. And, Reece Topley gives another left-arm option to the team. Karn Sharma is another experienced veteran in the squad for stability, along with a youngster Vignesh Puthur who displayed his skillset against CSK. Also, another economical T20 bowler AM Ghazanfar was ruled out of the tournament and was replaced by another Afghani spinner, Mujeeb.

Concerns for Mumbai Indians

There are not many concerns for MI in this season. However, they must be concerned about Bumrah’s fitness issue and Deepak Chahar’s injury regulation. Bumrah is likely to miss the first few weeks of the IPL 2025 and is set to join somewhere in April. The management would also look at the bowling combination now with Mujeeb coming as a replacement. Mumbai’s strongest playing lineup typically got washed out due to unwanted injuries. Still, they got the backing of good and skillful players. But the major concern would be the form of their batting department.
