Along with KL Rahul, 2 Indian Players White-ball Career is Over

In the recently announced India ODI and T20 squad, notable absentees were there. Chief among them was the exclusion of KL Rahul in the T20I, Suryakumar Yadav in the ODI, and Yuzvendra Chahal in both limited formats. The exclusion of these three players from the national squads reflects a shift in selection priorities and the emergence of new talent.

Their recent statistics suggest a decline in form or a change in the team’s strategic direction, leading to their absence from the upcoming international tours. Nonetheless, they were also not given ample opportunities like some of the other members of Team India.

3 Indian Players whose White ball Cricket career is over

KL Rahul in T20Is

KL Rahul has also been excluded from India’s T20I squad for the tour of Sri Lanka, which was announced on July 18, 2024. Despite his strong past performances, he has been overlooked in favor of younger talent. Also, KL Rahul has been ignored since the return of senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli during the Afghanistan series in January 2024.

In his last T20I series, Rahul’s contributions have been noteworthy but insufficient to secure his place. During the ICC T20 World Cup 2022, his performances included scoring 5 runs against England on November 10, 2022; 51* runs against Zimbabwe on November 6, 2022; and 50 runs against Bangladesh on November 2, 2022.

Suryakumar Yadav in ODIs

Suryakumar Yadav has recently faced exclusion from the ODI squads, most notably missing from India’s squad for the tour of Sri Lanka announced on July 18, 2024, even though he was the captain of the T20I squad. His ODI career has been marked by inconsistency, and he has not been given consistent opportunities to establish himself in the format.

In his recent performances, Yadav’s contributions were limited during the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. In the matches against Australia on November 19, 2023, he scored 18 runs; against New Zealand on November 15, 2023, he made just 1 run; and against the Netherlands on November 12, 2023, he managed 2* runs, with no wickets in his only bowling stint.

The Selection Committee showed a lot of trust in Surya in the ODI format, but he was not up to the mark. So as per the recent decisions, it looks like management has moved on from Surya. But one big positive for Suryakumar is that he has now been given leadership duties to carry forward the legacy of Rohit Sharma in the short format of cricket.

Yuzvendra Chahal in T20Is and ODIs

Yuzvendra Chahal has been omitted from both T20I and ODI squads for India’s tour of Sri Lanka announced on July 18, 2024. This exclusion marks a significant shift as the selectors explore other options.

Chahal’s recent performances include his last T20I series against the West Indies in August 2023, where his best figures were 2/19 on August 8, 2023. In the same series, he had 1/28 on August 12, 2023, and 0/38 on August 10, 2023.

In the ODI format, his last series was the Asia Cup 2023, where his notable performances were 3/27 against Nepal on September 4, 2023, 0/42 against Pakistan on September 11, 2023, and 1/32 against Bangladesh on September 15, 2023.

Indian selectors have persisted with only one wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav in the squad since after the Asia Cup 2023. Yuzvendra Chahal was not even considered as a backup option and rather Indian selectors have been interested in a young leggie Ravi Bishnoi for the future aspects. Chahal has not announced his retirement yet but fans would not be surprised if something happens like this shortly.
