T20I Career Ended for These Two Indian Cricketers

Many things were considered about the T20I career of the two indian cricketers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli they won’t be participating in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. But, the indian selectors surprised everyone by including both the greats just before the last preparation series of the T20 World Cup 2024. Also, Indian selectors got another opportunity to try a couple of more things due to the injuries of Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya before the World Cup.

Many things have been considered before including these two Indian cricketers like the captaincy geniuses of Rohit Sharma in the recent ODI World Cup 2023, and Virat’s exceptional performance in the last T20I World Cup. As per the latest sources, Virat has been involved in a few discussions with the coach and all for the change of role, currently, it is not clear whether he will open the innings or be more aggressive in the middle overs.

Two Indian Cricketers might not play T20I again

Someone’s gain is someone’s else loss, due to the inclusion of both Rohit and Virat into the T20I setup once again, and that too after a long wait of over a year has raised a serious question about KL Rahul’s and Ruturaj Gaikwad’s T20I career.

KL Rahul who used to open the innings till the last T20 World Cup 2022 has not been included as a backup wicket-keeper batsman against the Afghanistan series, which clearly says that KL has to establish himself again in T20s, not as an opener but as a middle-order player. Also, Lucknow Super Giants earlier released a statement about KL Rahul that KL will be batting in the middle along with the captaincy and wicket-keeping responsibilities. If everything goes well in the IPL 2024 for KL, and if any two players Jitesh, Sanju, and Ishan struggle will make a direct way for KL in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad.

Already for the opening slot Rohit, Jaiswal, Ishan, and Gill were on the list and after KL Rahul, Ruturaj Gaikwad becomes another Indian cricketer whose career could be under threat due to his inconsistency and conventional batting approach in the T20I format as an opener. Gaikwad might have to wait for his turn at least for another 6-7 months who scored his maiden T20I century in November 2023. Also, another Indian cricketer, Ishan Kishan who was not included in any T20I match of the South Africa 2023 tour, has been dropped from the Afghanistan tour.
