Axar Patel and Washington Sundar’s partnership helped with steady run chase. The team’s hopes of winning diminished after Patel and Sundar’s departure, and the wickets kept falling. India’s innings ended in the 43rd over with 208 runs.
The spin-favouring pitch at Columbo resulted in the collapse of India’s batting line-up. The inability of the Indian batsmen to read the spins of the rival team resulted in five LBWs. With Sri Lanka winning the second match, the 3rd ODI becomes extremely crucial for India to change its strategy for winning which might force India to drop a pacer to include Riyan Parag to increase batting depth and strengthen the spin attack.

The partnership of Kusal Mendis and Fernando (74) and Kamindu Mendis and Wellalage (72) came through for the Lanka team with a winning total of 240. The combined efforts led to the 32-run win of the host country over India.
The Lankan team led by Asalanka, had five spinners in the squad to exploit the pitch qualities of the stadium. Hasaranga’s hamstring injury led to the introduction of Vandersay in his place, which was extremely fruitful for the Lankan Lions.
