A piece of news on social media is being circulated that Rohit to Captain and Virat is to be dropped from the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 India Squad. From the cricketing point of view, excluding Virat Kohli does not look logical and at the same time, Rohit Sharma should also join the T20I setup as a captain because of his exceptional hard-hitting skills in the powerplay overs.
Virat Kohli has already won 2 Player of the Tournament awards in the T20 World Cup history. He missed the 3rd one in the last T20 World Cup 2022 edition after losing the semi-final match against England, where he was the tournament’s highest run scorer. The news regarding Virat Kohli’s exclusion was rumored due to his anchor role in the T20Is.
One thing is clear from the statements of BCCI, whenever Rohit and Virat did not play any T20I series, it has been said that they have been rested. Also, the all-format captain is still Rohit Sharma, others were just given leadership responsibilities in his absence. If that caliber of player has to be dropped there should be a serious reason behind it. From a logical point of view, Virat Kohli should not be dropped from the T20 World Cup 2024 India Squad.
But, there could be some factors like the young blood Ishan Kishan, Tilak Varma, and Rinku Singh, who all are doing exceptionally well and approaching the T20 cricket with a much higher Strike Rate and intent so that might create a headache for the selectors. Because selectors will also have to fit Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja in the playing 11. So, there should be a reason why these young guys should not be taken after performing well.
