3 Major Reasons behind RCB’s Success to clinch the maiden IPL Trophy
After a wait of 17 years, Royal Challengers Bengaluru clinched their maiden IPL Trophy on 3rd June 2025. IPL 2025 was full of exhilaration, but it ended after more than 75 days from the start of the tournament. In the middle, there was a pause in the season due to some circumstances, but it continued after a 10-day break.
Since the IPL 2025 Auction, Royal Challengers Bengaluru looked like one of the most balanced sides. This time, they covered all the bases with the best options, and the best thing was that every single thing in the auction went their way; this was not the first ever time the strongest on paper time won the tournament. Once the campaign began, the RCB team dominated the games one after another and ended their wait to win the maiden IPL Trophy in the 18th season.
3 Major Reasons Behind RCB’s Success in IPL 2025
Years of Consistency
In the last 6 seasons since IPL 2020, RCB qualified 5 times for the playoffs, which was the most by any team, and also won the most matches as compared to other teams. Also, there’s one more fact that RCB never reached the final till the IPL 2024 season. Even CSK, who won 2 IPL Trophies in those 6 seasons, could not be seen as consistent like the RCB; the only thing missing from RCB was the Champions tag. And being so consistent kept the entire franchise and the players motivated, knowing that the trophy was not far away.
Winning the most challenging part
Teams prepare their lineups in the auction, as per the home conditions. However, for RCB, the case was completely different; they won all their away games, including the playoffs. One game that they lost against Hyderabad, which was scheduled at Lucknow, was technically a home game because it was shifted from Bengaluru to Lucknow due to bad weather.
Creating the strength of the Squad for the away games was insane, along with winning the 7 away league games as well. This was the first ever instance that happened in the history of IPL.
Impactful Performances
Out of the 9 teams, RCB had the best middle-order, along with disciplined bowlers. Every single player had a huge contribution in every match that RCB played during the IPL 2025 campaign. RCB got the right candidates in the right positions, especially from number 3 to number 8. Players like Devdutt, Patidar, Jitesh Sharma, Tim David, Shepherd, and Krunal played important innings whenever the team needed them.
RCB had 9 different players of the match award winners, in the 11 games they won out of 16 games. In one lost and rain-affected game against Punjab, Tim David won the Player of the match award for rescuing RCB from a huge collapse. Also, the bowlers, who were not exceptional but more impactful by taking responsibility at different points of the tournament. Bhuvnehwar and Hazlewood were disciplined in the powerplays, then Suyash and Krunal made the life difficult for the batters, and during the death overs, Yash Dayal was also very skillful.
