Possible IPL 2025 Mumbai Indians Retained Players List
With retention rules announced for the upcoming IPL 2025 auction, all the teams will look forward to securing their core and building a new team for the coming years. Every team has key players that management wants to retain at any cost. This core will strengthen their team and the remaining players will easily revolve around these players. Unfortunately, there could be many players whom the teams will have to let go. However, few key players will be a no-brainer retention for the respective teams.
Here are the IPL 2025 Mumbai Indians Retained Players:
Hardik Pandya
Last year, MI surprised everyone by bringing Hardik Pandya back into the MI squad and making him the captain. This change was, however, not accepted well by MI fans and even the sports critics were surprised at this change. MI known to make tough decisions, decided to change captain last year and replaced Rohit with Hardik. Even some MI players posted cryptic posts on their social media accounts showing their disappointment with the decision. The team, unfortunately, performed pretty badly and was heavily criticized by everyone.
All said and done, Hardik Pandya will still be MI’s first possible retention. Not just as an all-rounder, Hardik has proved his worth as a captain in both international and franchise cricket. Hardik’s ability to bowl tough overs and hard-hitting skills at the end will be the main reason for his retention. Less number of good Indian all-rounders will favour Hardik and MI won’t let him go into the auction. For a player of Hardik’s stature, MI would easily pay INR 18 Crore to acquire his service both as an all-rounder and captain.
Suryakumar Yadav
Arguably the best T20 batter in the world cricket right now, SKY will be MI’s second possible retention in the list. SKY’s unorthodox technique and consistency in T20 cricket make him one of the most exciting batsmen to watch. His ability to change the course of the match in a few balls makes him one of the favorites at the international level. His connection with the MI family and Wankhede’s pitch easily makes him one of the no-brainer retentions for Mumbai Indians.
MI would keep a purse of INR 14 Crore for SKY and wouldn’t let him go at any cost. That’s obvious Surya won’t be released, and at INR 14 Crore SKY will be a steal for MI. Additionally, he is also the captain of the Indian T20 squad.
Rohit Sharma
The T20 World Cup 2024 winning Captain, and 5-time IPL winning captain Rohit Sharma could be MI’s 3rd retention at INR 11 Crore. Having retired from T20I cricket, Rohit will be under no pressure to justify his position in the team. His role as a pure batter with total freedom will be a blessing for MI.
Rohit’s ability to take down any bowler and play an aggressive brand of cricket will surely be in MI’s mind. With all the captaincy chaos that happened last year, Rohit would like to leave those rifts behind and contribute more freely towards the progress of the team. The team has been trophyless for the last 4 seasons and a lot will depend on how Rohit performs. MI management won’t hesitate to offer INR 11 Crore to Rohit Sharma.
Jasprit Bumrah
Perhaps the best bowler across formats in the cricketing world. Bumrah will fit in any 11 of any format, and this is what makes him one of the possible retentions for MI. Bumrah’s ability to bowl in any situation and get the team out of trouble makes him the most trusted player for a captain. His toe-crushing yorker, lethal bouncer, and ability to bowl in the right area at a consistent pace and accuracy will easily.
Bumrah at INR 18 Crore will be a big steal for any team and MI won’t let the opportunity slip out of the hand. Bumrah has also shown great leadership qualities in the Indian team and is currently the best all-format bowler. His combined skills will offer MI much assistance in succeeding in the coming seasons of IPL. MI fans may get the good news later this month on 31st October before 5 PM.
Nehal Wadhera
Nehal Wadhera may get an edge over Ishan and Tilak in the retention. The smashing left-handed middle-order batsman, Nehal has done a tremendous job in the number of opportunities he has got. Hitting at a strike rate of 140, Nehal Wadhera stands out as one of the players to watch out for in the MI setup.
Nehal’s ability to adapt to the situation and play accordingly makes him a perfect deal at INR 4 Crore. MI would be happy to have an explosive India middle-order batsman in their squad to strengthen their bowling department.
Players That Could Be Brought Back Again
Ishan has not been playing consistently for a long time which might influence MI think tank to put him on the auction list. Ishan was bought by MI for INR 15.25 crore from the IPL 2022 Mega auction, but this time MI would try to get him at a reasonable price.
And for Tilak Varma, Mumbai management will look to get him back at the best price possible because he has shown pretty good potential while batting at different positions and match situations.
Overseas players such as Romario Shepherd, Gerald Coetzee, and Nuwan Tushara would get the preference over others by the MI management.
Other than Nehal Wadhera, talented uncapped players such as Kumar Kartikeya, Vishnu Vinod, Akash Madhwal, and Anshul Kamboj would be definitely on the radar of the MI management.
Last but not least, after the above 5 retentions, MI will be going into the auction with a purse of INR 55 Crores. This time MI will be looking to fill the key areas that were left in the last IPL 2022 mega auction. But with these 5 retentions, MI will look forward to strengthening and forming an ideal squad around these talented Indian squad. It will be interesting to see who MI retains.
