Winner of the inaugural IPL, Rajasthan Royals has been one of the most consistent teams in the last few years. A star-studded team, led by Sanju Samson has done an incredible job in maintaining a healthy environment and playing good cricket. Loved by the fans for their sportsmanship and positive intent, Rajasthan has become a second favorite of many fans for quite some time now.
Rajasthan has found many match-winners in their squad, and retaining all their core will be tough. Rajasthan did well in the year IPL 2022 where they were the runners-up but could not make it into the playoffs in the IPL 2023 season and IPL 2024 they were knocked out in the Qualifier 2. The management would like to retain some key players and build a fresh team around them.
Rajasthan will go into the IPL 2025 Auction with a decent purse value of INR 77 Crore after retaining these mentioned players.
Let’s look at the Possible IPL 2025 Rajasthan Royals Retained Players List:
Sanju Samson
Undoubtedly Sanju Samson will be their first retention for Rajasthan at INR 18 Crore. Sanju has been in the RR squad for over six years now. Re-bought at INR 8 Crore in the IPL 2018 Auction, Sanju has been phenomenal for the team scoring lots of runs at a healthy strike rate. One of the senior players of the RR set-up, Sanju’s ability to connect with the youngsters and players makes him a tremendous leader as well.
Captain of the team and a phenomenal striker of the ball, Sanju is the complete package to be the first retention of RR. The recent T20I hundred against Bangladesh showed his class as an opener and his six-hitting ability. An added advantage is Sanju’s wicket-keeping skills which makes him a multi-use player. The management would surely retain their trusted deputy and hope for a rewarding season.
Yashasvi Jaiswal
Yashasvi Jaiswal one of the most destructive youngsters in the international circuit, has been phenomenal in the last two seasons. Jaiswal’s top-notch form for the Indian cricket team makes him an ideal candidate for second retention at INR 14 Crore. Jaiswal’s ability to play big strokes from ball one exactly suits the demand of the T20 format in modern cricket.
A fearless batsman and one of the finest in the international circuit, Jaiswal has proved his worth by scoring a lot of runs in the chances given. Rated highly by the cricket experts, Jaiswal’s skills and hunger to score runs are likely to keep him in the team for a longer period.
The management would retain him to get their openers sorted and have the rest of the build around them. Also, the retention of a few other batters in the squad will ease the pressure of rebuilding the team.
Yuzvendra Chahal
A clever leg spinner, and one of the finest especially in IPL. Yuzvendra Chahal has been phenomenal for RR and also he is the leading wicket-taker with 205 wickets in the IPL. His skills are unparalleled and are always beneficial to the team. Chahal could be the RR’s third retention at INR 11 Crore and he was picked by RR in the IPL 2022 Auction at INR 6.50 Crore, Chahal has done a great job for Rajasthan by picking 66 wickets in 46 matches with a strike rate of 16.26, which also makes him the obvious retention as a bowler in huge demand.
Chahal also won the Purple cap for Rajasthan in IPL 2022 and he has performed various roles as a bowler for RR, the new one was bowling at the death. It is very tough to find a bowler of Chahal’s quality and the lack of good spinners in the pool may hike the price of Chahal. The RR management will most likely retain Chahal and strengthen their bowling unit.
Players who could be Picked through RTM by Rajasthan Royals management for IPL 2025:
Jos Buttler
A phenomenal striker of the ball, and one of the most trusted players of RR management. Jos Buttler’s ability to open the innings and give a good start to the team makes him a very impactful player. Picked by RR at INR 4.4 Crore in the 2018 mega-auction, Buttler repaid the management’s faith by scoring tons of runs for the franchise and they further retained Jos for INR 10 Crore in the IPL 2022 Auction.
Starting as a middle-order batsman, the dynamics changed once he was promoted to the position of opener for Mumbai Indians. Jos Buttler hasn’t looked back since then and has been a regular team member in the 11. His best season was in IPL 2022 where he smashed four centuries and scored 863 runs taking the team to the final, a feat Rajasthan achieved after a very long time since 2008, although they lost to Gujarat in the final.
England’s T20I captain Jos Buttler keeps the wickets and is a gun fielder as well, so management could back the English skipper by using the RTM card. His ability to pace the innings as and when required makes him one of the dependable batsmen. RR would surely love to secure his service through RTM.
Riyan Parag
One of the great stories of last season, Riyan Parag was sensational for RR. Continuously backed by Rajasthan and heavily criticized earlier for his average performances, Parag turned the tables last season by scoring approximately 600 runs at a strike rate of nearly 150. He justified the management’s faith in him for 5 years and won matches for the team last season.
Rajasthan will surely retain their middle-order batsman through RTM and give him a longer run in the coming years. Bought in 2019 at INR 3.8 Crore, Parag finally had his moment last season and was immediately drafted to the Indian team. His ability to score runs quickly makes him an exciting prospect. As a part-timer, he can give a couple of overs when required. RR will surely do their best to retain Parag and hope for another great season from him.
Trent Boult
In IPL 2022, Rajasthan grabbed the opportunity when MI decided to let go of one of the best powerplay specialists in T20 cricket. Picked by Rajasthan at INR 8 Crore, Boult had a very good run for RR since IPL 2022. He has picked 45 wickets for RR in the three seasons. His ability to pick wickets with the new ball makes him a dangerous bowler.
Boult’s ability to swing the ball both ways creates doubt in the minds of the batters. A fine left-arm seamer and a gun fielder, Boult is likely to be retained using RTM. Boult has been sensational even at the death over and gives an added advantage to the team. The management would most likely retain him and have a good overseas bowler in their squad to form the base of a fast-bowling unit.
The management with such a heavy purse is likely to get some good players in their squad. We might also see a few quality youngsters in the team, a pattern that RR has been following since the start. RR would like to win half the battle at the auction table and hope for a trophy in the coming IPL.
