Reasons behind Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant as openers.

Since the 2nd T20I from the England tour 2022, team India has been seen experimenting with their opening batting combination. Being Rohit Sharma as a permanent opener, team India has tried some surprising combinations like Rishabh Pant and Suryakumar Yadav with Rohit’s opening partners. After watching this kind of experimentation, many from the Cricketing world have been seen criticizing Rohit Sharma and the team management for this skeptical move.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was also seen explaining related to this move during the post-match interviews and all. Most of the time, he mentioned that before the start of the T20 World Cup 2022 they want to experiment with different things related to match situations, batting order flexibility, bench strength, ideal replacements, etc, and they are not afraid of any failures while experimenting as well.

Honestly speaking, the Cricketing world outside the dressing room does not know anything about the plans made by the team management.

So, here is one of the supposed explanations behind Suryakumar and Rishabh Pant as openers.

Explanation:

Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant are the core members of the Indian middle order batting unit, and usually, they bat around number 4 or 5 according to the team’s want. As there are other players who have also joined the Indian T20I squad due to the unavailability of regular members like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, etc.

India already has some specialist openers like Ishan Kishan but he has not been included in the playing lineup since the 2nd T20I against England 2022, he has not done anything wrong for his exclusion so still, the question remains why SKY & Pant?

Ishan Kishan has almost cemented his place in case of any kind of replacement in the opening combination, being a left-handed batsman gives him an edge over others as well. He has been rested so far which provides an opportunity to give other players enough chances to prove themselves.

Through the experiments,

It is very clear that team management is altering the positions of those who have already cemented their place in the T20I squad at a particular position so that players like Deepak Hooda, Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, etc can make the best use of the opportunities. This will definitely help the management to increase the versatility of the core players and will also help the skipper to go with the best possible bench players for the upcoming T20 WC 2022 as well.

Also, this experiment can test the temperament of the players like SKY, and Pant during required situations as well. In case of the match scenarios like the early fall of wickets so these middle-order players are usually not used to the new ball to build up the innings during the high-pressure world cup games. So this experimentation will be an opportunity for them to get used to it and resolve unforeseen collapses.

So, those were the supposed explanations behind the move to send Surya and Pant to open the innings along with Rohit Sharma. In the future, there is a higher probability to witness some other kinds of experiments as well.
