Shreyas Iyer at 4 is still a concern for Team India

The back-to-back failures of Shreyas Iyer and his exposed weakness towards short-pitched deliveries have not been good for him and the team. Whenever Shreyas Iyer is on strike, any pacer from any opposition makes no mistake while bowling short-pitched deliveries to him. At one point, Iyer looked comfortable while managing the short-pitch deliveries but he kept thinking about the short deliveries which led to the wrong shot selection and got out cheaply.

Shreyas has scored a total of 134 runs with an average of 33.5 and an S/R of 84.81 including 12 Fours and 3 Sixes. He registered only 1 half-century in the 6 matches, and in the 6th match when India batted first he had the perfect opportunity to show his skillset on a slow pitch of Lucknow.

If this happens in continuation there’s a very big possibility that Shreyas Iyer will lose his spot from the playing 11 in the upcoming matches of India before moving into the semi-finals. Team management will want to give Ishan Kishan a good number of games before the knockouts, who reasonably did well at No. 4 during the Asia Cup 2023 tournament. Also, with the help of Ishan Kishan as a left-handed batsman team management can have a variety in the middle-order.

Suryakumar Yadav who has been given the opportunity in the absence of Hardik Pandya to fill the gap as a batsman at number 6, will have to make use of the opportunities otherwise this World Cup 2023 tournament could be his last series of chances.
