Virat Kohli played his 1st ODI match as a full-time Indian cricket team captain on 16th January 2017. As a leader, Virat captained the Indian cricket team in 95 matches and became the 2nd batsman in the world to register the most centuries as a captain in the ODI format which is 21 behind Ricky Ponting’s 22 centuries.

With a win percentage of 70.43, Virat Kohli is the most successful Indian ODI captain and the 4th successful captain in the world as well in commanding at least 50 matches. He also led the side in two major ICC events which were ICC Champions Trophy 2017 where India lost the final against Pakistan and ICC World Cup 2019 where India lost the semifinal against New Zealand.
